What you will need to build your kits

This page is dedicated to resources for our newest beekeepers due to the restrictions of the shelter in place order due to the Coronavirus. As you know, build days have been canceled, and you will need to build your kits before your bees arrive. We have verified that the shipment and pickup of package bees falls under the essential services - Agriculture, so bee packages you have ordered on your own will be coming on time.

Since we had to cancel build day, you will need the following:

  1. Wood Glue
  2. Screws, nails, staples (whichever you choose, you may need specialized air equipment, or you can use a hammer)

  4. Frame Grommets (you can do this without grommets)
  5. Frame Wire
  6. Wax embedder
  7. Support pins (OPTIONAL, can use bobby pins in a pinch, or nothing)

You can order from any beekeeping supply company. If you are looking for local resources that you can call and drive to, you can find many vendors on the Ohio State Beekeepers Classifieds.

Two vendors close to everyone that carry grommets, screws, tensioners, wire embedders and support pins are Conrad Hive and Honey, and Simpsons Bee Supplies

Install your wax in the frames - Electric method

Install wax in the frames - spur embedder - after putting a raised plane of wood under your wired foundation, use the embedder manually along the lines of the cross wire to embed the wire into the wax. Be careful to nly embed the wax, not tear the wax.

There are videos out there using monofilament to held in wax - once you become more experienced you can choose new and different methods to build your equipment. You will see it all!
